Before reading this, keep in mind that this is entirely my opinion, and if you disagree with me feel free to do so like a reasonable human being. If you just type something like "NO YOU'RE WRONG [insert generic overrated anime here] IS THE BESTEST THING EVAR!", your comment will be removed. Also, I'm well aware this does not apply to everybody in this fandom.

Well, I was recently reminded of my disdain for a good majority of the western anime fandom, so I'm just going to go ahead and put my reasons out there. First and foremost, most of them somehow come to the rationale that "ZOMG IT LOOKS LIKE TEH ANIMEZ IT MUST BE AMAZING", disregarding any qualities that might make an individual series, game, etc. good or bad (Vocaloid fandom). They seem to be unable to recognize the fact that anime is just one medium through which something can be presented and that the quality can range from something great like Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni to something that's absolutely terrible, like Gundam SEED Destiny (which still gets praise from name-loyal Gundam fanboys, but that's another topic entirely), thinking that just because somebody likes some things that happen to be presented in the format of anime, it means they automatically have something in common and can instantly relate to them; that's no different than thinking you can forge a connection with somebody because they also happen to watch television. Additionally, they only seem to ever know, at most, four or five series (i.e. Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, whatever the most overhyped series of the most recent season is [currently Sword Art Online]) and barely any of them seem to be able to recognize anything older than a couple years old, because Arceus forbid they look for something based on anything besides how flashy it is, so if you mention anything that actually has some merit, they won't know what the hell you're talking about.

Well... I think I'm done. And, yes, I'm well aware that a lot of the things I like are anime, but I don't like it because it's anime, that just happens to be the form in which it is presented.
